Comment 1: Good things come in twos
This game featured three seperate goal scorers, each of whom were able to light the lamp two times in this contest. On the losing end, we saw Theo Morgan continue his dominant goal scoring season by scoring the only two goals for the Whalers, both of which came in the first period. He led the team easily in shots with 6, double the amount of shots taken by the next closest shooter on the team. On the winning side, both Henry Morris IV and Ravyn Tedisko potted two goals. They each scored a goal in the first period, tying the game each time. Their goals in the third period gave the Militia the lead and sealed the victory. Comment 2: Montreal surviving the second period The big momentum swing in this game may have came in the locker room during the second intermission, after Montreal was able to weather the storm and survive a thrashing in the second period without falling behind on the scoreboard. The Whalers were able to out-shoot the Militia by a total of 14 to 3, but an impressive performance in net by Aleksi O'Koivu-Volkova kept the score deadlocked at 2 goals a piece. Montreal was unable to get anything going on the offensive end of the ice during the period and constantly found themselves defending in their own end. Their resilience in that second period most likely led to a stern pep-talk in the locker room and helped to propel them to victory in the final frame. Comment 3: Power play? More like powerless play Both teams found themselves on the power play three times in the contest, and both teams found themselves coming away with zero goals with the man advantage. Montreal went on the power play once in the second period and came away without a single shot. They went on the power play twice in the third period and were able to get a combined three shots on goal during the two chances, but also allowed two short-handed shots against. Vancouver was able to muster up a bit more pressure during their power play chances, with a total of eight shots while on the man advantage, but they were stonewalled by a hot O'Koivu-Volkova as he refused to let the Whalers back into the game. |
