WFT's: Make the Case (S48)
|
![]() Registered PGS and Recruitment Head Code: Some surprising new names are leading the league in total points which includes Lil Manius (29 points), Shooter McGavin (29 points) and Anders Christiansen (28 points) .. one of these 3 will win this seasons point title. Starting with Lil Manius, the entire Winnipeg Jets squad has been off to an electrifying start. The top line has been a major part of that, with the Crossfit Jesus-Jason Visser-Lil Manius line exploding for a ton of points in the first few games; Manius had reached 12 points before playing 5 games. He's come back down to earth a bit now, but he still has a very high shooting percentage and is second in the league in goals, only behind his teammate Jason Visser. Manius had a great year last season, so it's no surprise that he's built upon that breakout year this season. With the amount of ice time, quality linemates, and special teams time he receives, he flourishes in Winnipeg and could easily win the points title. Of course he will have tons of competition; the two mentioned could easily compete. McGavin has come a bit out of left field and is new on the scoring scene, but the Toronto top line is just a work of art. Between Christiansen, Lyndis Vakarian and Mikhail Lokitonov, Toronto has some stars just gaining recognition and coming into their prime who all feed off of each other. Christiansen's assists-heavy total might be sustainable as long as his linemates keep producing as well. Christiansen is tied with Manius for the points lead in the league, so he could easily take the lead with a strong stretch or if Manius' pace slows a bit. And there are plenty of veterans nipping at Manius' heels; his own teammate, Jason Visser, is outpacing him in the goals race and just three points behind. Flacko Lagerfield for Tampa is putting up great numbers and the main fixture in the surprising Barracuda success story this year; he's just a single point behind. And the Bobby Watson-Eric Pelletier-Terrance Nova top line has brought the Minnesota Chiefs back to line after a difficult offseason, with Terrance Nova 5th in the league scoring and just two points shy of Manius and Christiansen. But at the end of the day, I think that Lil Manius will be the one to get it done. Manius is still adding to his build and gaining endurance, so he's getting stronger as the season progresses. He has the results from S47 to show that he's a proven commodity, so I don't even see him as that much of a surprise. It's just that folks outside the fantasy hockey wizards are starting to take notice of what he can do, and the addition of Crossfit Jesus has given his point totals a boost. The current results are well within his capabilities and there's no reason he couldn't finish the season at the top of the charts.
