Comment 1: Chicago prospects in Anaheim lead dominate early game
The Chicago Syndicate have a number of prospects currently playing in the SMJHL for the Anaheim Outlaws and all of them were a big part of Anaheim’s win tonight over the Colorado Raptors. S47 draftee Lallo Selman was the early catalyst for the Outlaws and picked up two assists that set the tone early in the first period. Meanwhile S48 draftee Nick Connolly and S49 draftee Leonid Kofix each contributed a goal as well that brought the Outlaws to a commanding 3-0 lead. While the game would end in a 4-3 win, the early game domination by the Chicago Syndicate prospects was encouraging to see and may be a sign of things to come at the SHL level. Comment 2: Knox Booth allows Colorado to come back after terrible first period When you see a goalie giving up 3 goals before the game is even half over you may think that he had an extremely bad game. However that was certainly not the case tonight for Colorado goaltender Knox Booth. In fact, the stats show that Knox Booth actually outplayed his counterpart Patrick Niedderreiter in terms of save percentage (0.906 versus 0.875). The reality is Booth deserves credit for ensuring the game wasn’t too far out of reach and bouncing back. Colorado gave up 15 shots in the first period while only having only 3 themselves towards Niedderreiter. It would have been easy for Booth to call it a night after the first period but instead he remained determined and ensured his team could come back into it and force a shootout. Just an all round stellar job to stay cool by him. Comment 3: Shootout Recap While the shootout to end the game was not very long, it certainly had its highlights. The Colorado Raptors elected to shoot first and sent out Emeka Valentine-Okoli. The young forward attempted a slick move with a shot fake and a deke to the backhand but was easily stopped by Patrick Niederreiter. Next up was Anaheim rookie Kevin Robinson who went in on Knox Booth with speed before slowing down and sniping it five-hole! Up next was Bo Kane who was determined to even it up, he elected to wind up and take a slapshot top corner that was gloved down in dramatic fashion by Niederreiter. The 2nd and last Anaheim shooter was James Hendricks who unfortunately lost control of the puck trying to make a deke which resulted in an easy save by Booth. The pressure was then on rookie Vorian Atreides to score. Unfortunately, nerves seemed to get to him and he missed the net with his shot allowing the Outlaws to pick up the win. ![]() ![]() Sig Credits: Gorlab and Kylrad |
