Detroit once again prove that stats don’t matter and the fact that they are dominant on the penalty kill. Of 5 attempts they had a 100% success rate shutting down Anchorage though they themselves only had a 25% success rate on the power play of four attempts. Detroit did play a much more physical game with 19 hits in comparison to Anchorage’s 9 hits. Anchorage eked out some success with 44 faceoffs won in comparison to 43 by Detroit. The real differences are Anchorage blocked 12 shots compared to Detroit’s 9 and Detroit have 10 penalty minutes compared to 8 for Anchorage. Once again Detroit managed to succeed with far less shots on net but with a much higher success rate. Detroit is proving that their much more conservative playstyle doesn’t matter as their dominance in skill is overshadowing everyone else on the ice even when completely outplayed on any other aspect of the ice they can score with less attempts compared to any other team on the ice making them a dangerous team to face and a real contender to win this season.
