Media Graders Posting Freak
Well today is the last day for the all so sweet 1.5x media for SMJHL All Star related topics so I'm here to try to get some of that cash. Let's take a look at some of the numbers.
In case you have been living under a rock - we'll take a look at the basic numbers first. Code: | 1 | 2 | 3 | T So all in all a high scoring game on both sides. This isn't a huge surprise as it seems the players picked were all point heavy forwards and dmen so it was pretty expected to see 10+ goals. There was only a single penalty given throughout the 60 minute contest and that was to Goalie Ian Venables for a delay of game 7:17 into the first. The East was able to capitalize on this man advantage in less than 30 seconds. But you all knew that stuff and the only way I'll get paid for this media is to show some different numbers so here goes my attempt and finding something to dig in to. One note is that I do not factor goalies into the below numbers as it made it a pain in the ass. Goalies aren't important anyway. First I wanted to look at what teams contributed the most to the scoring. So each team got in on the action to some variety with the shortest teams bringing in a minimum of 2 points. But we can see that Colorado brought in 6 goals assists and St. Louis pulled 7 points in total. Great showings by both teams. But this data can be easily skewed if there are some teams with an abnormally high or low number of players on the All Start team. So let's add that on the same chart: So this is somewhat interesting. Lets take that a step further and see what the points per player are on a team by team basis (reminder: no goalies were counted in this data): Code: Team | Points Per Player Breaking it down this way give KEL the edge. Ryan Shepard's solo spot on the All Star team with 3 points brings him to the top of the list But this got me thinking - how well did the players perform in relation to the score given to them on the All Star voting. Clearly performance is more than just points, but that's hard to measure so we are going by points here. I included dmen in here too so it may be a little unfair - but I think a lot of the voting was sorted on points (even when looking at defense) so you get to see it anyway. Using @golden_apricot's scoring as shown here (could you have done a LITTLE formatting man??): Code: F Scoring | D Scoring | G Scoring Now that we know the system behind it - lets compare that to how things actually turned out: Here we see a number of studs and duds. I'm going to give the stud of the game to Daniel Kuster (@kuschy) for rocking his last minute sub into the game (with 3 voting points) replacing inactive player Haley Knight. And then I'll give the dud of the game to Detroit rookie Luke McMaster (@lukejm37). He has had a great rookie season, but wasn't able to get on the score sheet during the All Star game. That being said - this rookie has been to more All Star games than I have so I guess I can't hate much. And that's all I could come up with to put on a graph. It's so hard to compare defensemen so you guys get no love unless you put points on the board. Maybe next year... Code: 602 words not counting anything in code brackets + charts. Really feel like I wasted a lot of time for like $1M... But it's too late now and already done so please pay me |
