As in Tradition here in Kelowna, half way through the season the morning after the 25th Game the entire team and any alumni meet in the locker room for the Annual Rookie Waffle Competition.


Rookies from the same country were grouped into teams as follows:
Representing Canada  is the team of Morgan Forestier and Luke McSquirrelly
Team Austria was the pair of Theo Golury and Todd Matthews
Noah Nystrom and Adam Scianna elected not to form Team Scandinavia and instead are representing their respective countries of Sweden and Norway individually
And finally their is Oscar Cordero representing Cuba


The only rule give to the Rookies was the following
Absolutely under no circumstance is there to be anything that even vaguely could be perceived as a pancake


And off the Rookies went, each having brought their ingredients with them. And roughly 15-30 minutes later each team presented their creations to the group of current and alumni Knights.


First up was Team Canada.
Their plate featured a thick whole wheat waffle topped with an over easy egg, some canadian bacon, and topped with a maple syrup drizzle




Next up was Noah Nystrom with his plate from Sweden 
Noah’s Waffle, or Vafflor as its called in Sweden, was a light and crispy waffle, served with a topping of berries and cream



The Austrian’s presented their creation next 
Their Waffle was a Neapolitan Waffle. Each portion of the waffle had its own subtle taste of strawberry, vanilla, or chocolate to match the Neapolitan color, and it was then topped with strawberries whipped cream and chocolate syrup.



Up next was Adam Scianna 
And his waffle or Vaffel, while similar to Noah’s Swedish waffle, the Norwegian Vaffel is a softer waffle and is folded around a caramelized norwegian brown goat cheese, butter, and icing sugar



Last to present his waffle was Oscar Cordero
Oscar’s dish, called Ropa Vieja Waffles, had a waffle topped with shredded beef, tomatoes, vegetables and olives



After all the waffles were eaten the current players and alumni convened to determine the winner…



5 minutes later after much debate, the Kelowna Knight Captain Ryan Sheppard declared

Team Austria,with their Neapolitan Waffle to be the winner of this years Kelowna Rookie Waffle Competition
