1. This is one of those incredible games where unfortunately one team has to lose. The aptly named “Battle of the Sea” was a fun affair. A back and forth contest with the Armada putting up a spirited fight in the second period to make it a game. After a disastrous first period, Anchorage really pulled their socks up and fought with the same heart, passion and desire that made them cup champions last season. The shot totals were dead even and both sides flashed the talent and depth needed for deep runs. If they meet in the playoffs it will be fun

2. This doesn’t excuse Anchorage from the Elephant in the room. Ian Venables had a horrific day. Being pulled after allowing 3 goals in the first period is never a good thing, especially not when this is the SMJHL and every game is important. Luckily, Anchorage had a saviour. Sergei Potvinov has had an up and down season but really showed his talent this game, stopping 17 of 18 shots for .944 save percentage. He didn’t deserve to lose this one. This is probably just an anomaly game for Venables but Anchorage only goes as far as he takes them come playoff time so watch out.

3. It goes to show that Anchorage does indeed have talent and can totally take over games when they want to. That second period is something the coaches and GM will want out of them every single night going forward. The entire lineup came alive and helped bring the game back from despair. Daniel Bischoff scoring a nice goal, Ryan Cvitkovich flexing his talent and the rookie third line continuing to make their presence felt wherever they go. Only three players ended up with negative +/- ratings so hopefully, Anchorage can build off that and find consistent winning patterns as they continue the cup defense.
