Penalty Knightmare
The Knights' penalty kill almost killed them this game... There were a lot of penalties this game, with 12 PIM for Kelowna and 8 for Newfoundland. But Kelowna's PK was abysmal, letting in a goal on 3/5 of their attempts. The zerks managed to keep the puck out on all 3 of theirs. This Knights team has got to crack down on risky plays because clearly they cannot handle the consequences. You just don't let in 3 power play goals. This game should never have gone to a shootout, and the Knights need to go back to the drawing room because they won't be so lucky next time. Shoot To Win The Knights cranked up the shot counter to overcome their 1 goal deficit coming into the third period. The zerks had put up just 2 extra shots in the first two periods, but had an extra goal to show for it. The Knights played a fantastic third period to come back, shitting out 16 shots to the Berserkers' 4. This dominant period netted them the 2 goals they needed to tie up the game for a push to win in overtime. They might have won it in regulation too, if not for some fancy footwork by Okabe to sneak one in off a faceoff win. Value of the Game One player you might not have noticed at first look was Gregory Stiemsma. He entered the game for one single power play - a whole 2:37 minutes - and grabbed himself an assist. Let me tell you, that is a Hall of Fame level P/20 if I ever saw one. Stiemsma has been having a fantastic rookie year for the Berserkers, putting up 13 points in just 338 minutes. That's good for 6th best P/20 on the team - .3 ahead of the next rookie. Efficiency is the name of this guys game and that powerplay is exactly the type of thing you see from him game after game. |
