PGS S52 Game 6: Kelowna Knights vs Newfoundland Berserkers
#12

1. Wow, what a big game for rookie Rocco Berni (yes I'm gonna hype my own player up). Very early in his SMJHL career, Berni notched his first point of his career. But that wasn't all he was responsible for in this game. When it came down to crunch time, the Knights coach looked down the bench and put his trust in the young Swiss man in the shootout. Talk about nerves of steel, folks. In hindsight, this was only the beginning of a fairly successful rookie campaign for the centre, as he was able to put up 22 points for Kelowna with limited minutes from the third line.

2. This is what we love to see in the SMJHL: a high-energy, high goal scoring affair. With eight total goals, this was a thrilling game for the neutral hockey fan. The third period especially was a roller coaster for everyone in the arena, with the Knights scoring the tying goal with less than . four minutes remaining on the clock. And what better players to be involved in the game-tying marker than a few of Kelowna's most well known players? Ryan Shepard got his season off to a strong start in this one, wiht his second finish on the season. The goal came courtesy of a wonderful Andrey Barbashev II feed, and set the Knights up for their eventual shootout victory.

3. We can't discuss this game without touching on the impact that Knights forward Ebenezer Virtanen had on this game, although it was anything but spectacular. Virtanen had a breathtaking ninety seconds of show time in tonight's game, and was even able to somehow get a shot off in this short appearance. That shot was one added to the total for the Knights, so most of his impact was on the opposing goalie's save percentage. Realistically, it probably wasn't much more than a flip shot that miraculously made it to the net. On the negative side however, he lost the only faceoff that he took. Come on Eb.
