PGS S52 Game 126: Vancouver Whalers vs Kelowna Knights
#6

1. Well folks, another goal differential padding game here for the Kelowna Knights. This season has proven to be an odd one statistically for the Knights, as they finished the season with one of the best goal differentials in the entire SMJHL, but were only able to secure a 7 seed going into playoffs (upset season). Anyways, in this game, Kelowna was scoring early and often, and really shut the Whalers down defensively. They were able to chase the Whalers' goaltender out of the net after scoring 4 goals on 9 shots, and they never really looked back from there. Not the first time Kelowna has ended a goalie's night, and definitely won't be the last time.

2. An issue that Vancouver face in this game was their lack of discipline, with the team racking up 16 penalty minutes throughout the game. The first period saw the Whalers take a couple of penalties for hooking and holding the stick, but Kelowna was able to pot three markers in this frame, so that probably made things worse going forward. Int he second period, they received a double minor for roughing, on which the Knights were able to slot home two very quick goals, with one coming just six seconds after the penalty being assessed. The final frame saw them take four more minor penalties, but the game was already finished at that point. Keep your heads, Vancouver!

3. Danila Zhernov had an enormous impact on this game, collecting three assists and a goal for a total of four points. He was able to do this because he played the second most minutes on the team for the night, and his defence partner, Luciano Vessot, was more than happy to take the defensive stats to himself for the night, allowing Zhernov to roam free as an offensive blueliner. Zhernov picked up two assists in the first period, on goals by Ryan Shepard and Kalevolaripaavo Kaspertommevisnapuu. In the second period, he grabbed an another assist on Kalevolaripaavo Kaspertommevisnapuu's second goal, before putting a shot of his own past the poor Whalers' goalie to cap off his outstanding night.
