PGS S52 G104 - Newfoundland Berserkers at Halifax Radiers
#2

1. Talk about a guy living up to his name, Jakob Hamr, how are ya. You absolutely love to see a guy getting his money's worth in a game early, and that is exactly what our good friend the Hamr was able to do for us in this game. Before the first period had even ended, Jakob was back in the locker room, supposedly quite irate. Did he deserve the tripping penalty assessed to him? Realistically, yeah, he probably did. Did that mean he had to go back out there later and get booted for spearing someone? Probably not, but it sure as hell made our nights all a little more interesting.

2. A big performance by goaltender Steven Vassallo tonight between the pipes. Steven has had an alright season so far, but he was tested tonight and came out looking very confident from the first puck drop. The Raiders put three more pucks on net, totalling 26 shots compared to the Berserkers 23 attempts. In the SMJHL, where scoring is rampant and goalies usually get a tough look, this game was always going to come down to whichever squad's goaltender was able to show up and make those key saves. Vassallo was the man tonight, holding Halifax to a measly two goals on twenty six shots.

3. Lets chat about one of the more interesting on-ice appearances of the night in one of the more interestingly named players in the SMJHL: our boy, PeaKay Soupcan. Mr. Soupcan hasn't seen a ton of action this season, but it appears that his team management has a fair amount of faith in him, as he was able to pick up some special team minutes in his 1:48 of ice time tonight. Talk about a quiet impact player: PeaKay skated thirty six seconds on the power play unit and seventeen seconds on the penalty kill. It appears he did his job, as Halifax registered a goal on the powerplay and had a 100% penalty kill success rate in this game. They didn't come out with a win, but PeKay played his role!
