S53 PGS Game 2: Kelowna Knights vs Detroit Falcons

The Detroit Falcons Prove Why They Are the Best Team in the SMJHL
The falcons absolutely dominated the second best team in the western conference in this game and continued their undefeated streak to start the season. The Detroit Falcons had more than double the shots in comparison to the Kelowna Knights, stayed out of the box for the entire night and had what seems like an unlimited amount of scoring chances in their seven to one victory. With this win the Falcons proved to the league that they can score at will against any team, as well as, play smothering shutdown defense. I know it is still early but the Falcons look like they have the potential to be one of the most dominant SMJHL teams in history.

Guy O’Shea Has Been Tearing Up The League
Any forward that can rack up a three point night would be seen as having widely impressive game getting the attention of the opposition and SHL scouts. Now what if I tell you it was defenseman Guy O’Shea who lead the charge offensively in the Falcons win. He put up an impressive goal and two assist, was a plus player, had over twenty minutes of ice time and was solid in his own zone on his way to being the first star of the game. This was not just one fluke performance by O’Shea, he is tied for first in the SMJHL for points by a defenseman, has the second best plus minus in the entire league and has put up a respectable amount of takeaways and blocked shots. Overall, Guy’s play is making him a case to be considered the top all round defenseman in the juniors.

Should The Kelowna Knights Be Worried After This Embarrassing Blowout?

At the end of the day a 2-1 win or a 7-1 win still only means you lost two points in the standings so the lopsided goal differential should not be a concern to Kelowna unless it becomes a frequent trend. Based on a larger body of work they should still be seen as a decent team in the west having come into this game with a respectable 6-4-1 and only look to improve from this game onwards. The Knights should not panic but rather take it as a wakeup call that they cannot take any nights off in this league.
