Selfless Players (Losing Team) Simothy Drunkebird left it all out on the ice. The Raptors captain leads by example by doing everything he can to help his team. Drunkebird had 27 shifts which was most on Colorado. Of his 22 plus minutes of ice time, he logged 2 minutes and 6 seconds on the penalty kill unit. He blocked 3 shots, had 3 hits, got a Defensive Game Rating of 65, which isn’t bad considering Colorado lost 0-4. Anrijs Asts also posted a very respectable game in the loss. The defenseman had a 78 DGR. He also had 3 blocked shots and 5 hits. He logged the most time on ice for the Raptors and spent almost 2 minutes on the penalty kill. 119 words Comment #2 Surprising Offense The Whalers won the game 4-0. The goalie, Name Redacted, had an amazing game (100 GR). But what is really surprising is that no Vancouver Whaler had an Offensive Game Rating over 68, and that player was William Hartman, who did not contribute on the scoreboard. Only 5 other Whalers had above a 60. Maybe they knew that Name Redacted was on top of his game so they didn’t need to be on top of their offensive game. Bryce McMahon, Johnny Shuffleboard, Ryosuke Sato, and Domenic Alessandrini are the other 4 players posting 60 or better. It definitely looks like the team played more of a defensive game once they had a hold on the lead. Seems to have worked out for Vancouver. 123 words Comment #3 Whaling The Whalers definitely rode their first game on the backs of the 1st line. The trio of Stracimir Petrovic at center, Walito Gretzky at right wing, and William Hartman at left wing performed admirably in the game. The top guys were on the ice for 40 shifts together, producing 22 minutes of on-ice time and all were on the power play together as well. Even though this trio did not get on the scoresheet, the chemistry between the 3 players looks to be strong, and it will only grow stronger as the season goes on. The 3rd line was the one that did most of the damage tonight, scoring 2 of the 4 goals, and a pair of defenseman added the other 2. 123 words |
