S56 mPT #1 - Promotional Night

Luffy Richard here! I think promotional nights are a good way to give back to the community. Community service is an important aspect of being a player, because to me it only makes sense to give back to the people who cheer us on every night. We are privaliged to play a game we love for lots of money, and giving our time and support to the most vulnerable people in our community is the least we can do. Often, the most vulnerable in communities are children so I propose a kid's day where we bus in children who are part of the foster care system/in homeless shelters/women's shelter as well as the schools around us. Not only would they get a free ticket, but they could skate on the ice, and we can turn the parking lot into a small carnival where players will man the booths. There will also be an area for parents where they can be treated to a spa day, or hang out with their kids. Just a moment to take away from the stress of everyday life. Something to show them that they haven't been forgotten.
I also have ideas for a men's day where we can go bowling/paintball/place hockey with men who are in homeless shelters, as they are often sepereated from women/their wives/children because many shelters don't allow men and women to cohabitate (at least in my area). The team can also visit the shelters to help with those who are not well enough to make such a trip by cooking or cleaning. Lots of ideas for promotional nights that go beyong a free hat or something. By placing us into the community outside our roles as athletes we can cultivate a sense of family that will bring people to the rink and remind us we are a part of something bigger than the ourselves. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
