Michael Scotch has had a terrific time in the SMJHL and has had plenty of highlight reel moments. He feels that although this isn't the offensive season he was expecting it was still full of moments that could end up on his career highlight reel.
His first highlight was his first point. In the third game of the season Michael Scotch got his first assist against the Knights. Michael Scotch received a pass and took aim and fired at the net. However he wasn't aiming for the twine, "Long" John Donair was screening the goalie and got his stick on it and tipped the puck. His first ever point gave him an exhilarating rush that may only be topped with playoff wins or his first goal. His second highlight was the welcoming environment his coaches and teammates have delivered. Scotch was always shy growing up and critics in the top US midget leagues criticized his lack of defensive skills and his huge focus on offense for a defensemen. Coaches and staff worked tirelessly and his teammates never doubted he could improve these skills. Thanks to all of them he is now a rapidly improving defensemen in the SMJHL and can hold his own against almost anyone. His third highlight was being drafted. He heard rumors that his name wouldn't be called to the early to mid third round so he watched the first round go by and was expecting to watch the second go as well. Then his phone rang and it was the Outlaws GM, he told Scotch that they believed they had the right coaches to turn him into a real dual threat on the blueline and were taking him 19th overall. His friends and family jumped with joy and showered him in praise and this was the day where Scotch knew his life would forever change. |
