To make the SHL more extreme and thus more marketable to impressionable young fans and to bring in a wider audience, the league needs to implement power ups like they have in video games. If a player skates into a certain part of the ice, it causes a light in the puck carriers visor to shine in his eyes for a second, blinding him. If you shoot the puck through a small hole in the boards, 5 pucks dump onto the ice and are all in play at the same time like in pinball. Coaches could have a one time use button on the bench which when pressed could make the opponents net expand for the next 30 seconds. All these random power ups would be real hip with the kids. It would add chaos and a new level of strategy to the game of hockey. It would be all the rage and the broadcasters will be beside themselves with joy at their ratings rising due to the new on ice shenanigans.
