And here we go, this is the big one. The Ron Mexico Award is handed out to the player deemed the Regular Season MVP by the Awards Committee. Do I really need to say more about this one? So let’s get right to it, your nominees, the best of the best who played in the SHL this season…
Ethan Duncan ![]() Interestingly enough, the player who won the “popular vote” for the Sarmad Khan Trophy, Daniil Nikiforov, didn’t even make the Top-3 in the Committee vote but one of his teammates did, and this teammate is Ethan Duncan. Duncan finished the season second in league scoring with 90 points, racking up 40 goals and beating out teammate Nikiforov in the various possession categories, TA/GA ratio and plus-minus, which might be why the Committee gave him the nomination over his higher-scoring Platoon teammate. Anton Mihailov ![]() The Inferno surprised a lot of people this season especially with their play early in the year, and a lot of that is due to the performance of their newly-minted superstar Anton Mihailov. With his 83 points, Mihailov outscored his next best teammate by 18 points and led the team in both goals and assists. His defensive performance was strong as well, as he spend over a minute per game on the penalty kill, collecting 97 Hits and 144 Blocks along the way while being one of his team’s best possession players. Sven Svensson ![]() Last up we have Sven Svensson out of San Francisco. His 90 points weren’t just good enough for second in the league tied with Ethan Duncan, it also put him 21 points ahead of his next highest scoring teammate which is the biggest margin among all teams. Unsurprisingly Svensson led the Pride in both goals and assists and he also put up 124 Hits while playing big minutes on his squads special teams.
