Growing up in the Netherlands, Martijn didn’t dream of playing hockey professionally. Out there, he wanted to become a world renowned DJ and spent hours every day working on his producing and mixing skills. But when he was 10, he joined his uncle on a trip to Toronto and he attended his first NHL game. He fell in love with the sights and sounds - the speed of the game and the electric energy that filled the rink every time a play was made.
He went back home after that trip and begged his parents to get him his own skates. Ice time was hard to come by outside of the speed skating rinks but he wanted to find a way to continue to work on his game. So he did, every night he’d be at the rink until the lights were turned off. He didn’t give up his passion for DJing, but as his career progressed his focus transitioned to making hockey a career for a lifetime. The rest as they say, is history. - - |
