PLAYER PROMPT
I knew from a young age that I loved hockey. I started later than most, around 10. I was quite good at skating and lots of people thought that would translate well to scoring. It did not. I was quickly placed on defence and that is where I really realized that I was quite good at this. Taking shots is hard, getting hit by them (blocking) seemed to come a lot easier to me. Defending seemed to come naturally to me, and my coaches really helped me excel at it. It was almost easier playing so defensive, as I didn't really take the time to learn the other side of the game it gave me a lot more time to focus on keeping the puck away and out of our net. I never needed to be the main player on the team, scoring big goals and making big plays. I was happy just quietly being as solid as possible. Late in high school is when I realized I could make the SHL, it was always a dream but around then I thought it might actually be possible. 188 words |
