Red Kirkby got into hockey through his father future hall of famer (first ballot hint hint) Rex Kirkby. Just like he intends his son Reg Kirkby to follow in his footsteps the same expectations applied to him from Rex. From earlier than he can remember he was out on the ice with his dad practicing skating and stick work. Repeating drills over and over again until his dad was happy. It was not easy as Rex was a perfectionist and often even the smallest error would mean that a drill was restarted. At the time he often hated the practice but now that he is as pro he has come to reflect fondly upon the valuable father and son time together. It is largely why he has been able to step into a very competitive Forge lineup and more or less start producing to a high level immediately. The only thing that annoys his dad is that he became a forward rather than a defenseman.
