Deep Dive #1 - Yukon Malamutes

Yukon Malamutes Deep Dive:

Despite A disappointing start the Yukon Malamutes have really started to make a late push having won six of their last ten games. Despite Yukon's Malamutes late push the team still sits one game under five hundred with only ten games left in the season. Yukon Malamutes are the only team with a loosing record to post a positive nine goal difference. This has many believing that Yukon has had the most unlucky season of any team.

Division break down:
1)Nevada 56 GP 33 W 20 L 3 OT 69 PTS
2)Yukon 58 GP 28 W 29 L 1 OT 57 PTS
3)Detroit 58 GP 17 W 25 L 6 OT 40 PTS
4)Colorado 56 GP 17 W 35 L 6 OT 40 PTS

Unfortunately it seem impossible for Yukon to push Nevada out of the top spot in the Michael Fitted Division with Nevada having a twelve point lead and two games in hand. Luckily for Yukon Detroit and Colorado have struggled mighty this season both with a seventeen point deficit to Yukon locking Yukon into the second spot in the division despite Colorado having two games in hand.

Conference break down:

1)St. Louis 58 GP 37 W 19 L 2 OT 76 PTS
2)Nevada 56 GP 33 W 20 L 3 OT 69 PTS
3)Carolina 57 GP 31 W 20 L 6 OT 68 PTS
4)Yukon 58 GP 28 W 29 L 1 OT 57 PTS
5)Kelowna 56 GP 24 W 30 L 1 OT 50 PTS
6)Detroit 58 GP 17 W 25 L 6 OT 40 PTS
7)Colorado 56 GP 17 W 35 L 6 OT 40 PTS

Yet again Yukon seems trapped in forth place in the Pacific Conference. Carolina holds a dominate eleven point lead over Yukon and also has two games in hand making it almost impossible for Yukon to push for a top three spot in the Conference. Yukon has a fairly comfortable 7 point lead over Kelowna despite Kelowna having 2 games in hand. Unless Yukon starts to struggle again they seem locked into forth place in the conference.

League break down:

1)Maine 56 GP 41 W 13 L 2 OT 84 PTS
2)St. Louis 58 GP 37 W 19 L 2 OT 76 PTS
3)Vancouver 55 GP 34 W 15 L 6 OT 74 PTS
4)Nevada 56 GP 33 W 20 L 3 OT 69 PTS
5)Carolina 57 GP 31 W 20 L 6 OT 68 PTS
6)Regina 55 GP 23 W 23 L  1 OT 57 PTS
7)Newfoundland 57 GP 30 W 24 L 3 OT 63 PTS
8)Quebec City 56 GP 28 W 24 L 1 OT 57 PTS
9)Yukon 58 GP 28 W 29 L 1 OT 57 PTS
10)Anchorage 57 GP 27 W 30 L 0 OT 54 PTS
11)Kelowna 56 GP 24 W 30 L 1 OT 50 PTS
12)Detroit 58 GP 17 W 25 L 6 OT 40 PTS
13)Colorado 56 GP 17 W 35 L 6 OT 40 PTS
14)Great Falls 57 GP 18 W 39 L 0 OT 36 PTS

This is were things actually get interesting for Yukon. Yukon is tied with Quebec with fifty seven points and only have three point lead on Anchorage. Anchorage have a one game advantage over Yukon so they could make a push to steal Yukon's ninth spot. Quebec on the other hand has a two game advantage over Yukon giving them a chance to run away quickly from Yukon. The main advantage Yukon has over Quebec is Quebec has a negative seventeen goal difference while mentioned before Yukon has a plus nine goal difference. If Yukon can play well these last ten games and some how end up with thirty five they could make a push for the eighth spot in the league. Unfortunately for Yukon it seems seventh place is unachievable with Newfoundland having a six point lead and a one game advantage.
