There are obvious answers to who needs to perform to make Detroit a player again: Wayne Holloway, Zed Zilliams and Trevor Lahey, the team's longest-tenured players. But that's an answer that focuses solely on making them capable in this coming season, rather than making the Falcons capable of being successful across multiple seasons. Obviously, Will Tomlander has to be high on the list - as a top-tier prospect and #2 pick, Detroit have already invested heavily in the Swede being a key cog for the next couple of seasons and providing being a true offensive option on a team that had none to speak of. Mephistopheles Morgonstjarna, meanwhile, straddles the gap between rookie and veteran - his first season was far from poor, but a putrid -38 plus/minus has to be improved upon or he risks loses playing time to the younger defenseman. The Falcons look to him to provide a goal-scoring presence from the blueline and quarterback the powerplay, so 2 goals from last year despite averaging just under 2 minutes a game with a man advantage is not much of a result. Funnily enough, Martins Priede was a low draft pick but is already looking like he has the tools to usurp Mephi's status as powerplay quarterback with his own cannonball shot - getting regular play at at least average level from a late-round pick is how quality teams get made.
