The Whalers are a young team, with a young GM, but with a ton of potential for development from a few stars, as well as some new draftees that really have the chance to elevate the back end of the roster. While they have started the season slow, look for continued progress throughout the season for this young group as the bigger plan from the newly named GM begins to come into focus. A few players do watch out for this season are:
Niclas Wastlund, LW One of the SHL’s most exciting young prospects, expect Wastlund to tear up the juniors this year as one of the leagues most lethal wingers at getting open. His vision for the game is second to none, and it will translate to goals all season long. GM’s Son, C Arguably the team’s best player when it comes to playing the puck and breaking into the zone, Son is a key piece of the Whalers team this season. One of the best face off takers in the league, he plays a key role in maintaining possession and setting up his wingers in transition or once in the zone for the one timers. Samuel Jalopski, C/RD A center playing on the third defensive after recently having his rights acquired by Vancouver, Jalopski brings a unique skillset to team when he is on the ice. Expect to see Jalopski taking some face offs this year, as well as reaching the back of the net more than just a few times. However his defense should still be a key part of his game that will grow as the season progresses. |
