Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Season 67 SHL Hall of Fame Induction ceremony!
We are gathered here tonight to celebrate the illustrious careers of some true legends of the SHL. We have 3 players and 1 GM to induct tonight, and each of them has well and truly earned their spot in the Hall.
Before we get to celebrate those who made it, let’s take a chance to recognize those who graced our ballots for the final time this season.
Nine players were on the ballot for the final time during Season 67 who unfortunately did not garner enough votes to be inducted into the SHL Hall of Fame.
I would also like to remind everyone of how the voting procedure works.
Each member of the committee (10 people in all) nominates 5 retired athletes from the list of eligible players and ranks them 1 through 5, which in turn gives these players points according to their rank (10 points for 1st, 7 for 2nd, 5 for 3rd, 3 for 4th and 1 point for a 5th).
Each committee member must also provide a short written piece to back up their choices.
These points are then totaled and all players who receive 35 points or more are selected to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
For GMs, committee members are allowed to place 2 votes, with 1st being 10 points and 2nd being 5, and a GM must receive at least 65 points to be inducted into the Hall of Fame
NOTE: There will be an audit conducted of previous ballots (specifically S66), and an additional season of eligibility will be given to any players who should have been listed previously but were not.
These players will continue through eligibility as normal, but their final season of eligibility will be determined by how many seasons they were left out. I will make an announcement when I have determined who these players are, and what their actual eligibility should be.
This audit was already conducted for GM eligibility.
