I think the king of training focus has to be stamina. Sure you could be strong or fast, or be technically brilliant, but the reality of almost all sports (minus baseball basically) is that the game will grind you down and the season is long, and the post season even longer if you are achieving your goals at least. If you don't have the stamina you can't really do too much. It might be fine at first, but if your legs or muscles die out, you will lose, and if you can't stay focus and keep your energy up throughout the game you will make mistakes and start giving up chances. Hockey especially is a game of inches and bounces, more than any other really, and stamina that allows you to play to your maximum effort every shift is the one big thing you can do to out work your opponent and make your own luck late in the game by just working harder. |
