Dunkler has always been a role player on defense. He prefers to be less physical, and more focused on sound positional play and controlling the puck. But he will play whatever role is needed. He’s not afraid to block shots or throw the body, despite his favored playstyle.
That being said, the defensive side of the ice doesn’t carry with it many scoring opportunities. Since Dunkler does love to control the puck and the flow of the game, he would probably like to play center as well. Center’s certainly get more action in the goals and assists department, but they also share responsible for setting up plays in the offensive zone. Dunkler could apply that same positional knowledge from being a defenseman to exploiting weakness in opponents defenders as a forward. It should also be noted that swapping to forward doesn’t completely relive someone from fulfilling their duties on defense either. I think Dunkler would play a strong two-way game, and focus mostly on being a playmaker rather than a scorer. WC: 171 |
