Being a mid-level hockey official in real life I feel I am decently qualified to have an answer for this prompt. I currently officiate ACHA D1, Tier 3 juniors, and AAA youth so far in my officiating career (probably not going to go any higher than this level honestly). A good official in hockey is calm, cool, and collected. They treat each game in the same manner and officiate it to the best of their ability no matter the level of play. It's necessary to know the applicable rulebook in and out to ensure you are making correct calls throughout the game. A good official puts in as much as, if not more than, the players on the ice competing with each other. Positioning is an extremely important aspect of an official as well, if you notice the officials on the ice they are not doing a great job. As far as being a good referee in a simulation league, do whatever you want cause the sim seems to not care about any of this... |
