i feel like we as a society have really lost sight of the ways we ought to treat one another. we have gone through the "don't tone police oppressed people" and situations where people's anger is justified and shouldn't be used as an excuse to dismiss their concerns, all of which is completely valid. When someone is the subject of bigotry and prejudice, it's not your job to tell them to be nice about the way they communicate that. But it feels like we've just decided that also means "just be a straight up asshole to anyone you think is dumb or who mildly irritates you" and I hate that. Make people feel bad for being bigots, not for just not being exactly what you want them to be, or for having ideas you think are silly.
