Hugo Spycher is no stranger to being the underdog, and his ability to play under pressure and against elite competition has shone through that. Coming into the SMJHL late in S76, Spycher made an immediate impact for the Malamutes and this season has done the same. When matched up against players of similar or greater stature, Spycher grows rather than shrink. His intensity on the puck becomes more obvious, and the grittier physical side of his gameplay that is often nought to be seen is put full on display. During his first bout at the WJC this season, he got a lot of great experience against these players, and was a quintessential player in his team's progress through the tournament despite it. The next big checkpoint for this though will be an obvious one, with the ascension to the SHL being just over the horizon for this young star. Who knows what's to come! |
