The Great Falls Grizzlies decided to have a pot luck dinner in order to create a fun team building activity. The rule was that the food had to be home-made by the player. Not their parents or spouse. That means no bags of chips or pre-made snacks. NO vegetable platters or any thing of that kind. Elvar Gil-Galad decide to expose to the world his incredible cooking skills and bring his famous pulled pork. He starts with two large pork tenderloins. One could use a fattier cut of meat, but Elvar personally, does not like when you get that mouthful of gristle when you bite into a sandwich. In a slow cooker, with the pork, two large onions, finely chopped. Three large tomatoes, chopped. Three red peppers, chopped. About ten cloves of garlic, not crushed, but be prepared to pick them out later. The added spices can be a selection of spices that one prefers, there is no wrong choice. (Garlic powder, chili powder, salt and pepper are fan favourites). Now, the secret ingredient is a two litre bottle of root beer. Add this to a cup of red wine, a cup of soy sauce a few splashes of worchestershire sauce. Set at a low heat and cook for about six hours. Once it's done, shred the pork with two forks and pick the garlic chunks out, unless you really LOVE garlic. Now add two bottles of your favourite barbeque sauce, Elvar loves one with a little kick, and let the pork simmer for another half hour or so. Serve the pork on a fresh, crusty bun with a touch of coleslaw and there you have it. Elvar's winning pulled pork sandwiches. |
