IIHF Federation Head Toast's Idiot of the Year 2021
After watching his father win multiple Challenge Cups along with stories of his grandfather's championships, Jesus Murphy has a great deal to live up to. The first great aspiration of his career was to do something no one in his family had managed to do - win a Four Star cup during their junior hockey career. As part of a strong S74 SMJHL class for the Anchorage Armada, things looked to be trending in the direction of a contention window led by the hulking centreman. However, for both Murphy and the team as a whole, things just never really took off. He was able to put up good but not great numbers and the team ended up selling assets in his final year rather than load up, leaving Murphy to play out the string. It was a massive disappointment for a player who was seemingly letting down his draft position in both the SMJHL and SHL drafts, and the disappointment hit close to home. However, both of the previous generations of Murphy took some time before they became champions, so the path is still there should the hard work and commitment remain.
