Welcoming in the new rookies is never an easy task. You want to be helpful and seem personable, but at the same time you don't want to overload them with information. Everything is so new and different, it can be a lot to take in for new players, even if some things are universal across franchises in the SMJHL and SHL. The best approach that Holmberg has found is to give them all the key information at the start, and then tell them feel free to ask any questions over the next few weeks on anything. He makes it a point to offer to bring the rookies out to lunch before game days, or show them the favorite local hangouts for the players on the team. Anything to help them feel at home, while also not trying to force them to do anything they don't want to do. Really just letting the rookies decide how quickly they want to interact with their new enviroment.
