I, Leonard Wood, arrives to the hockey game as a professional in a full suit and tie. I am a professional athlete and I need to convey that to my teammates, coaches, fans, and the media. My demeanor is all business that shows upon the minute I set foot into the arena. The professionalism dialed down to the very attire I wear is a small attribute that goes a long way. It shows that I am here to play at the highest level. It shows that I am here to compete, to win a Challenge Cup. It shows that I am here to set an example, an example to the impressionable young fans who look up to players like me and an example of leadership to my teammates. I sometimes see players showing up to games looking like total slobs. And I notice how that translates to their play on the ice, which tends to be sloppy as well. It also does not reflect well upon their team when they show up on social media. This is a sport where all eyes are fixed upon you, so I make the effort to dress the part and look good.
