The Newfoundland Berzerkers spent the last few weeks before the playoffs began by trying to right the ship. A seven-game losing streak had the team needing to find some positive momentum before the post season began. We did that by winning six of our last seven games, including a pair of wins over our first-round opponent, Yukon.

The turnaround happened because Sburbine had us on the ice working until the wee hours of the morning like he was Herb Brooks. I'm actually surprised he didn't start saying "the legs feed the wolf."

Burb made sure that Ima Noobie continued to work on his game, heading into the final days before the playoffs. He gave the Noob plenty of film to study and pointed out key areas where the rookie could improve on his defensive read skills. Ima Noobie followed along, taking notes, rewinding certain plays and getting mentally ready to appear in the hockey playoffs for the first time in his life.
