Matiss during the off-season is always nearby the training facilities and ice rink so that when new players come into the team he is always available to help them out and show them around. Matiss is always willing to help new players get accustomed to the new surroundings and get them up to speed as far as the systems and the team works. The only way to have a successful team and season is if everyone is on the same page and that can only happen if everyone knows what to do and when to do it. The faster new players can get systems understood the better the team will be going into the season. With Matiss going to off-season training everyday he will always be a person that new players can talk to and learn from since he is a veteran on the team. Matiss is always willing to take a mentor role to be able to help the team in any way that he can.
