It’s been a good pre-season finishing 3rd. That finish might be a bit deceptive as Quebec scored 40 goals on a questionably sustainable shooting %. Letting in 29 goals with a goaltender averaging a putrid .849 SV% is not a good sign. If the saving % can come up to at least a reasonable .880 it might be enough to offset the likely fall the team will have in its scorching hot shooting %. Quebec has shown some signs of being able to hang in the top but we’ll see if it can be sustained over a whole season.
3 Key players are: Cristoforo Roccamontepiano, QCCBOT4, and Rodwin Dionicio. Roccamontepiano was Quebec’s leading scorer last season and the team will rely on the center matching and improving on last season's totals. Playing in their last SMJHL season, Roccamontepiano is as good as anyone in the league gets. Lethal in offense and good in defense, likely to be one of the top stars for Quebec and Quebec will need them to perform at their best over the season. QCCBOT4: Quebec has many goalies in the system but the starting gig will either go to QCCBOT4, Solberg, or be split by those two. QCCBOT4 has gotten all the starts in the pre-season and looks ready to start the season in the net. Struggling with a .849 SV% through 7 pre-season games, Quebec will need better goaltending if the team has any ambitions to try and fight for the Cup. Rodwin Dionicio: The 1st overall pick in the draft has already been pressed into top power play duties. The depth at defense is not good for Quebec. The team needs their rookies to all perform and grow quickly to assist the team this season. Dionicio has been tapped as the unlikely PP1 quarterback and if the two-way rookie can put up good numbers in offense it can help mask some of the team's defending woes. |
