Derek Martin is a longtime servant to his team. Drafted high and introduced to the team in what was then a pretty bleak prospect pool given they were so close to a previous cup win, he knew he had to be patient and that their time would come. Captain who led his team to two cups, Derek knows no wrongs, and as such anything that could've angered the general manager of this storied franchise must have been a grave misunderstanding. As such, when presented with this crazy plan, two things immediately pop into his head : first, why? second, how could Whitecap and Rashford ask their star player to take such a risk and risk injury or even worse, death... So it goes without saying that he had all he felt he needed to outright refuse to do this job, but over everything, he wanted to understand what happened. Well as it turns out, they misread a report from an internal complaint, and thought it was the captain who committed the deed, when it was someone else all along. Dialogue works, talk things out lads!
