Throughout her career Sonja had the privilege to play alongside her twin sister, Frøya. As the pair have been playing together since childhood, they know each other's movements even before those movements are made and as such can react very quickly to each other's play or help each other out in a tight situation. Just as they did in Québec, they rely on each other a lot in Calgary as well. Which of course can be both a blessing and a curse at the same time. Sonja had to deal with a lot of criticism. She saw fans call her a "twin merchant" due to her reliance on her twin sister Frøya. True that sometimes she thinks she is under-appreciated and it can drag her mental state down sometimes but in all honesty it just gives her more reason to work harder and show to the world why she is the best and that she is in fact not being carried by Frøya.
