Depending on how you view things, the SHL has a distinct advantage over all of the professional sports league. And that advantage is that it doesn't have to cater to a real-life, dedicated fan-base. Because of this, the strategy of "tanking" is by far the best way to achieve success in the SHL.

Why not be terrible season after season and get those sweet lottery odds come draft time? Sell off any assets of value and flip them for as many picks as you can. The more darts you have to throw, the more likely you are to hit on some elite talent.

As to how that all pertains to a "real-life" fan base, what it means is that SHL teams have the peace of mind of having to not worry about ticket sales. That allows them to be patient and endure years of suffering and sitting at the bottom of the standings while they build up a high-calibre prospect pool. Building a core group of max earning players who will all peak together at the same time, not to mention years of chemistry building seems as good as a strategy there could be at achieving and maintaining success.

As I'm currently part of a rebuild that is going along a similar path, I'll let you know whether or not it works out.

11. Finals Roadtrip   +4 TPE

There really isn't a much better way to bond than the tried and true roadtrip. Or roadie if you're one of those cool folk that says that instead.
And while the kinship amongst the Blizzard family is already strong, why waste the opportunity to grow those relationships even more. With 2386km to travel (that's 1482mi for you Muricans), that's ample time to  further develop team chemistry.

First off, of course, we need a mode of transport. We know it's a bus but the question is: what kind of bus? Why the prototype Tesla Robovan! Ain't nobody got time for drvin'. Robot Jesus, take the wheel!


Now that we've got that sorted, what kind of pitstops and tourist attractions will the Blizzard find themselves at along the way? Make no bones about it, you can be certain a visit to the Royal Tyrrell Museum will be on the itinerary. Home to one of the world's largest fossil collections, the stop can be used doubly as entertainment and education. Perhaps a lesson about how all the pieces of something, no matter how big or small, are all important in creating something incredible. Like a dinosaur! Or a great hockey team. Groan.


So let's do something fun after going to a museum like.....going to another museum! Watch Alexa Johansen and Matviy Cajabi channel their inner Lucy and Charlie Brown when they go to the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center! Come see all things Peanuts and do that funky little dance they do on the Christmas special.


These are just a couple of things in store for the Blizzard as they make their way down to the Golden State. As anyone who has been on a roadtrip knows, though, just about anything can happen. And oftentimes those unplanned experiences end up being the real adventure and most memorable part of the journey.

So, like a band of gypsies the Blizzard will head on down the highway. They're the best of friends, insisting that they world keep turning their way. And their way. Is on the road again.
