For Matthew Leroux it was an easy transition to Vancouver given that he had signed a temporary contract the season prior to play in Kelowna before the draft, so he only had to move a few hours west within the Province of British Columbia. One of the veteran players took him under their win upon his arrival and let him stay in their spare room while he looked for a permanent apartment, which he will be doing later tonight before the team kicks off their preseason. Training camp was fun, Matthew had a leg up on some of the rookies having played briefly in the league last year and his size and strength already has him ready to compete.
A couple of the veteran guys took Matthew and the 2 other rookies out for some team bowling and treated them for dinner afterwards. The veterans weren't counting on Matthew to have been an accomplished bowler in his spare time and the rookies beat the vets head to head. Lots of jokes and stories were shared and it was a good bonding experience. Dinner was a local Japanese restaurant and Matthews first time trying sushi and some other Japanese favorites, the sushi and a few others were hits but the barbecued eel was not too great. Matthew is looking forward to bonding more with his fellow rookies and teammates as the season gets underway and he settles in here. Being Canadian, he's been to Vancouver a few times before already for hockey tournaments and whatnot. Current Player: C - Matthew Leroux [Vancouver Whalers]
Past Player: RW - David Benson [Seattle Riot/First Overall Scrub] |
