Sure, it may not be as mentally rigorous as being a goaltender, but to be a top notch penalty kill specialist requires a lot of mental training to have the poise to know how to play strategically.

The mental training often comes in unconventional methods. Meditation is a key part of Teddy Bloos' off-season training routine. By learning to be mindful and 'in the moment', this heightens his on-ice senses and awareness of how the play develops on the ice. This not only benefits his ability to shut down the power play, but also builds his overall awareness across the 200 feet of ice on the rink. Without this mental fortitude, Teddy Bloos would not have the hockey IQ that he currently possesses, and be a far worse player.
