Will Tomlander did something that no one else has ever done in the history of the Seattle Argonauts, and he will be remembered for it. However he will not be remembered in a good way because what he did was pass the puck back to his own net during a delayed penalty, while the goalkeeeper was not in the net. This resulted in a goal for the opposing team, and this was the first occurrence of this during the history of the Seattle Argonauts as a franchise. So this is what is meant by a historic moment, but not a good one. Thankfully they did score on the powerplay so the net result was a zero, which is better than a negative result.
Nevertheless his team mates will not let him live it down, and his nickname for the foreseeable future will be "Own Goal." There have already been stickers and pucks placed in his stall during practice, and Will is sure that some fan is going to ask in the future "Hey aren't you that guy that scored on his own goal...?" |
