Which happens to turn into your favor as the rest of the team gets symptoms of food poisoning half way through the third period. While the rest of the team is locked into the locker room; the refs give you, the only one still standing, an hour to find enough replacement players to finish the game. How does your player handle the situation? Is it time to call the closest beer league team and hope they can make it in time? Maybe run quick trial to find most capable fans? Or do you give spotlight to the staff, surely the Zamboni driver and equipment manager can do it? What kind of team your player manages to get together and can they hold onto the 6-3 lead for 10 minutes? In my experience, one doesnt have to venture far beyond the innards of the stadium to find fully capable individuals who love hockey and play it to take to the ice. Few people are going to be involved with hockey if they dont have a passion for it, and chances are pretty good that the ice crew that helps out on the ice, the zamboni driver or equipment manager as mentioned above can do the deed. I would first start internally w/ individuals who work for the organization in some capacity and have the coaches decide who makes up what line. With the remaining spots left on the last lines, we would broadcast an open call in the arena and divy up people into lines where a coach would make a call if they progress. Gut check call but time doesnt allow for more stringent criteria. Whoever is left standing, joins the team on the lines. Is it a guaranteed recipe for success? Maybe not one that results in a W, but in terms of entertainment and the stuff of legends, this game goes down in history! |
