Well, what do they do differently?  That is a good question.  I will start the focus on the San Francisco Pride as I believe I see something that they do that has allowed them to keep at the top of the game and being in their conference I have watched them better as well.  My former SMJHL GM is also on that team so I did follow it.  They clearly have the highest distribution of top level TPE players in the league.  This allows them to match up lines in any way they like as they are all pretty similar and with a lot less drastic drop off from the top players to the bottom than other teams have to deal with.  So, they can match up their top players against other teams' bottom lines and so have a cumulative advantage.  And how are they able to have such a higher floor of TPE players?  Looking at it, it seems that they sacrifice their farm system.  While other teams have normally 4-6 prospects in their system ready to take over for aging or just players moved in FA, SF seems to never have any players in their farm system.  Right now they only have one prospect in their system.
