11. The biggest disappointment this year in the playoffs was the Quebec Citadelles. Even though they lost their two best players, they led in wins in the regular season for the third year in a row. I may be a bit biased as a Quebec player, but they could have gotten the three peat. Instead it was a disappointing second round exit to the Vancouver Whalers. As a player who was previously on Vancouver, it stank to see all these rookies who thought they would never get close to the Four star Cup take out the juggernaut in just six games. To make it even worse, the Pride got a three-peat in the SHL. We had the chance to rival them with a parallel dynasty in the minors and we failed. I went to the classic standby of cheering for the team the beats whoever beat you, which ended up being Kelowna, who went down to Carolina in six. A slightly less major upset was Kelowna beating the second-place Newfoundland, which is pretty serious in itself, didn’t matter a ton to me, but I’m sure the players felt it. It was a year of upsets in the playoffs, but at the end of the day, we all have to agree that the best team won. 12. I haven’t really considered this since I play in the SMJHL, but now that I got called up I am a potential pick for an expansion team. This expansion will cut short the reign of this year champion. The Pride and Barracuda will regress to fast to really feel this cut, but whoever wins the Challenge Cup this year will lose some major pieces. 3 + 4 + 1 = 8TPE |
