2. Looking Towards the Future

Coming into the S81 expectations were rather low, but by the end of the season it looks like the S82 will be much higher. Reaching the final four as a team of nine rookies really set the standard for success while the group is around. One of the strongest benefits they’ll have is chemistry. Unless someone gets called up to the SHL early, no one is due to be moved. Four players will be entering their final season so 83 will look different but this puts them in great position for S82. That’s four players at 425 (2 forwards, 2 defenseman). Eight other players are looking at being above 300, with a handful of them being locked at the 2nd year 350 TPE cap. The team will look to round that out with some solid earners in the S82 J draft, and put them in a great position for the next handful of years while the St. Louis Seven (active rookies from S81 draft) are in town. The holes they’ll have on the roster are few, but important to keep this team afloat and strive for the aspirations the S81 season set for them. They’ll look to fill two forward slots and two defensive slots. (Maybe 1 defensive slot and 1 goalie if someone makes a switch).

10. In the Zone

The standout performer in the playoffs for the St. Louis Scarecrows was definitely Teemu Jarvinen (@Omniscius). This six foot eight monster might have single handedly kept the Scarecrows impressive playoff push alive. While his stats took a bit of a nose dive in the finals against Carolina, the team wouldn’t have been in the spot without his play in the net. While servicing mostly as the backup goalie in the regular season appearing mostly as a relief goalie/backup, he made the most of his time in the first two rounds of the playoffs getting on quite the hot streak. While there weren’t any shutouts, and only a handful of low scoring games (only 5 of the 13 from the first two rounds had 3 goals or less), he did have 406 saves which made out for a %.908 save percentage. While there are goalies higher than that, it was enough for the scarecrows to sneak by and make their way to the final four.. where they proceeded to get outscored 5-28. Neither the offense or defense got anything going so it can’t rest solely on Teemu’s shoulders. During his three best games he held the opponent to 1 goal. First was game 5 vs Ottawa where he stopped 33 of 34 shots for a narrow 2-1 victory. Second was game one vs San Diego where he stopped 31 of 32 for a 5-1 win. And third was a 3-1 victory in game three against the Tidal where he stopped 34 of 4 shots. All three games he held a 97% save rate, however his most memorable game might be game six against The Tidal. Needing to pull out a victory to stay alive in the playoffs and force a game 7, Teemu once again played hero stopping 43 of 45 shots to force an overtime with the game tied at two. In overtime he made ten saves before Dakota Glover won the game for St. Louis. He probably won’t get any looks for overall playoff MVP, but in STL he definitely played hero along side Center Boogan McGillicuddy to will the team to the final 4.

14. R&R

Shortly after the season came to a close in a crushing series sweep to the Carolina Kraken, Toivo would hang out around town for a few days to decompress with the team but then make his way back home to Finland shortly after. This would prove to be a good move as he was selected to be on Finlands roster for WJC, and getting to be around his native tongue again would help him acclimate. He’d visit his family in their new home he helps pay for as a thank you to his parents for supporting him along his hockey journey up to this point, and just reconnect with them since this season was his first time away from home for an extended period of time. However it wouldn’t be all rest and relaxation with the family. With the WJC looming overhead, he’d still have to wake up early and head down to the local ice rink with his younger brother and get some conditioning and practice in. To wrap up some family time in the offseason, towards the end when Toivo has to report back in St. Louis the family would take a trip to Disney World as they’ve never previously been able to go (or afford). They’d experience something new, get to spend more time together, and Toivo wouldn’t have to travel as far alone back to St. Louis.
