They all laughed at me and told me to stop being a dumbass, because there's no rule in the rulebook that says we have to update it within X time of posting an update. It was pointed out that I was asking for unprecedented and unprescribed discipline, which is exactly what appeals told us (and we agreed, I do want to stress) that we couldn't do. Then we all agreed that was pretty goofy in itself that we don't have any commitment to doing that on a set timeline, and started working on wording to change that. So yes, we're working on that.Despite probation being referred to in other places in the rulebook, it’s not referred to at all in the section I highlighted as being the applicable punishment for a violation of HO responsibilities. For GMs, a first offence results in probation with a second offence resulting in termination and a 3 season ban on holding a management position. In this case, a first and second offence results in a write-up, while a third write-up results in a meeting to review job performance. Presumably a measure of that review could be probation or termination, but as written a write-up isn’t the same as probation. It’s not a unprescribed discipline, perhaps unprecedented yes. Anyways, I can’t comment on why Appeals Committee chose to not address this issue - but I can’t believe, even for a split second, that taking 4.5 months to update a rulebook after announcing changes to that rulebook fits the spirit of HO’s responsibilities. That’s an egregious timeline to make an edit, given the rule change was written and posted - and directly caused this fiasco. But alas, the point’s been made clear and argued and apparently that’s a totally fine and normal timeline and nobody should expect accountability because accountability isn’t required with a detailed timeline. |
