Option 1:
Okay so my player turns into the Slapshot Specter, which basically means he can phase through solid objects but only when he's got his enchanted hockey stick in hand. His signature move would be the ghost goal where he literally shoots pucks that phase through peoples bodies hitting their souls and hurting them that way. Totally unfair but whatever.
His big bad is the Zamboni Zero. This absolute menace has the power to control ice resurfacing machines and turn them into battle mechs.  Imagine a Zamboni with laser cannons shooting ice beams everywhere. Last week they went at it in the parking lot after a game and Zero tried to flatten the team bus with his souped-up Zamboni army.
The best part is both their coaches pretend nothing's happening. Like, Zero will show up to practice with his evil cape still on and coach is just like "nice hustle out there." Meanwhile half the arena is still frozen from their last superhero showdown.
