While there are many opportunities where a player could be considered a hero to their team, such as an overtime game winner, a big save at rhe end of the 3rd, or a fight to stamd up for a teammate, I think there's a certain type of hero that's very largely overlooked by this prompt and is arguably more important than any of the aforementioned heroics. Hockey is a team sport and yes the results matter, but as professional athletes we have a distinct and unique opportunity to be heroes within our community as well. This can manifest itself in so many different ways, from hospital visits, to charity events, to simply taking the time to say hi to that one fan that recognizes you at the grocery store. It may not help you score goals and win a cup, but tyese actions strengthen the bond between your team and your fanbase. What people often forget is they are the ones we are playing for. Increasing that bond makes them care that little bit more, which in turn makes the on-ice heroics even more better, especially when viewed through the lens of a shared experience with the fans.
