While of course you have the classical hero in sports, the players able to perform when pressure is at its highest, a big goal in the final minutes against the rivals, getting a great goal to win the finals, beautiful assists when the game looks dire to set-up a teammate. But what is often forgotten are the more sacrificial hero’s, the player deciding to get a penalty to get some fire back into the game, a defender managing to complete shutdown a star forward to keep hold of that 1-0 lead into the final minutes, the goalie managing to keep the shutdown alive, maybe even multiple times, with great saves. But even outside the rink, you could have herolike qualities in the teams locker-room getting the morale back up after a loss, and staying grounded during a big winstreak, and in this way getting the team to stay concentrated during good stretches, or against weaker opponent. While also keeping the players motivated during the big losing streaks. 167 words ![]() |
